The path to Metropark train station just became more direct–and safer. Passengers looking to cross Route 27 at Magnolia Road in Woodbridge in order to make their way to the train station now have a pedestrian hybrid beacon at their disposal.
Somewhere between a traffic light and a simple crosswalk, the pedestrian hybrid beacon is dark until lit up when a pedestrian presses a button. Once activated, the system alerts motorists that they should be slowing down with a yellow light, before turning into a red light and allowing pedestrians worry-free passage across the road.
One of only two such systems currently in New Jersey, this new system holds great potential for decreasing accidents and avoiding pedestrian casualties. The other pedestrian hybrid beacon is in the town of Westfield.
Metropark station is located on NJTransit’s Northeast Corridor line, offering train service to both New York City and Philadelphia. In addition, the station services a number of Amtrak train lines.
