New Jersey is home to runners, cyclists and fencers of all ages. This September, some of the state’s more mature athlete’s will have a chance to show their sporty sides and compete in the 2011 New Jersey Senior Olympics.
For the fifth year in a row, the New Jersey Senior Olympics will be held in Woodbridge Township, where Mayor John E. McCormack has been steadily encouraging all members of the community to stay active via the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, a state-wide initiative designed to help townships stay healthy. Events will be held across town at venues including the Club at Woodbridge, Woodbridge High School’s track and field facilities, the Woodbridge Bowling Center, township parks, and more.
Last year, over 1000 participants competed in events ranging from racquet ball to table tennis to 3-on-3 basketball. This year, participants will compete in over 50 events for gold, silver and bronze medals–and, of course, the glory of the win.
Though sporting events will begin on Friday, Opening Ceremonies will be held at 10am on Saturday outside the Woodbridge Community Center at 600 Main Street. Stop by to see how the state’s oldest residents stay young in body and mind!
Please note that golf and archery events will be held separately, on September 15th and October 2nd. For a complete schedule of events, visit the New Jersey Senior Olympics http://www.njseniorolympics.com/schedules.
