What do you get when hundreds of thousands of volunteers come out on one day to volunteer to improve public land? You get National Public Lands Day, an annual day of national civic action, now in its 21st year.
What started in 1994 with three sites has now expanded to a nationwide day of volunteerism. Last year, 175,000 volunteers participated across 2,237 sites. Participants plant trees, maintain trails, collect invasive plants, remove trash and much more — all in service of maintaining and stewarding our shared resources.
In addition, from 11am to 3pm, head over to the Ernie Eros Wildlife Preserve for the 2nd Annual Ernie Oros Woodbridge River Celebration, featuring food, live music, a walking tour, and kayaking.
