On October 16th, 1928, the Rahway Theater opened its doors for a gala benefit filled with stage and film performances. This celebration of the arts marked the beginning of decades of vaudeville, film and musical performances for Union County, as the majestic Rahway Theater began to attract entertainment lovers everywhere.
Over the years, the Rahway Theater has undergone many changes, including a period of disrepair in the 1970s and 80s that shut it down completely. In 1986, the theater was renamed the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC), and, today, this 1300-seat theater stands at the center of Rahway’s up-and-coming Arts District.
A restored landmark, the magnificent UCPAC provides a trace of Rahway’s rich and vibrant history while being an integral part of Rahway’s revitalized future: upcoming attractions include performances of the Alliance Rep. Theatre Company’s, The Drunken City, musical act Rusted Root, and Vishwa Marthi Natya Sammelan. Visit the UCPAC and get a taste of the past while celebrating Rahway today!
