What happens when you combine the genius of Bob Dylan, the tuneful guitar of Beatle George Harrison, the operatic voice of Roy Orbison, the production wizardry of ELO’s Jeff Lynne and the rocking twang of Heartbreaker Tom Petty? You get THE TRAVELING WILBURYS!
Formed by Harrison & Lynne in 1988, The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll described the Traveling Wilburys as “the ultimate supergroup”, with a line-up that represented four eras of rock music history and included “three indisputable gods” in Dylan, Harrison and Orbison. Who can forget that great first single, HANDLE WITH CARE that shot out over the radio and MTV and straight into our hearts? Sadly, with the passing of Orbison in late 1988, Harrison in 2001 and Petty more recently in 2017, there can never be a reunion.
Woodbridge residents at Fox Hill Run, Forest View, Evergreen East, Evergreen Forest and Cloverleaf Gardens can experience the next best thing to a reunion come Sunday August 21st @7pm when Woodbridge Sundays Free Concerts presents Jeff Slate’s Weekend Wilburys tribute band on the Woodbridge High School Lawn at 1 Samuel Lupo Place! Gates open at 5pm so bring a blanket, your lawn chair and the family fido (on a leash please!) and let the harmonious rocking sounds of Jeff Slate’s Weekend Wilburys fill your heart and head once again.
