From 1876 to 1881, Thomas Alva Edison made Menlo Park, New Jersey his home. Called “The Wizard of Menlo Park,” Edison was an inventor and scientist who revolutionized the way that we power our world. With inventions including the phonograph and the lightbulb, Edison brought electricity into our homes–and did some of his most significant inventing between Middlesex Avenue and Tower Road.
Edison”s memory continues to shine brightly in Central Jersey. Menlo Park is now part of Edison Township, and the Edison Memorial Tower Corporation has worked hard to preserve Edison”s legacy. The Thomas Edison Center, located at 37 Christie Street in Edison, hosts a museum educating the public about and commemorating the famous inventor”s life. Visitors can stop by to see exhibits and artifacts, including early phonographs and lightbulbs, preserved notebooks, and a model of Edison”s laboratory.
Located adjacent to a 36-acre park, the museum is only part of a re-imagined Menlo Park, which also includes an archaeological precinct and an Art Deco memorial tower. Visit the Thomas Edison Center today to discover a world of history, invention and imagination.
