Proximity to great commuter train lines has always been considered a huge benefit for our Woodbridge based BestrentNJ.com residences at Fox Hill Run, Forest View, Evergreen East, Evergreen Forest and Cloverleaf Gardens however there’s a new rail rolling into town of a different “scale” altogether.

If the the thrill of model railroading is something you still savor and want to share with family & friends, you’ll have plenty to do come this holiday season! Head on over to Woodbridge’s own Barron Arts Center for The Holiday Model Train Show where you’ll discover more than 300 feet of track featuring the highly selective collection of Colonia resident Michael Gelesky who has taken his passion for model trains to new heights. As the “trainman” curator of The Barron Arts Center Holiday Model Train Show, even Mike’s kids – Stephanie & Justin – assist their doting dad in setting up this amazing exhibition.

I got my first Lionel train set as an 8 year old in the 1960’s and by the time I was 12, my model train set grew to spread from a modest 5 x 3 slab of wood to take up perhaps 1/4 of the small basement of our modest split level suburban home! That however pales next to what is being featured at this years exhibition.

It’s an all-seasons delight as Gelesky’s labor of love will feature a moving operating playground and three towns including Main Street U.S.A., a small town in the snowy mountains, The Boardwalk with a Ferris Wheel and Tilt-A-Whirl surrounded by an operating monorail. Eleven different trains will be used in the display with four trains operating at all times. The layout will be a complete walk-around-display viewed in the round.

While hours are Monday-Friday 11am-4pm and Saturday & Sunday 2-4pm, the exhibit will be closed on December 25th. Join Mayor John E. McCormac on 11/30 for a FREE public reception that coincides with the Woodbridge Township Annual Tree Lighting from 5-7pm.

The exhibition will be free to the public and open to schools and groups. To make a reservation call 732-634-0413. This event is sponsored by RSI Bank, J.J. Elek Realty Co., Middlesex Water Company, Wegmans Food Market, The Mom’s Club of Edison and The Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission.
