Are you ready to lead a healthier and more fulfilling life? It’s not complex, it’s simple and it doesn’t cost a thing…just take a walk!

The Mayo Clinic suggests the following reasons why regular brisk walking can help you:

• Maintain a healthy weight

• Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes

• Strengthen your bones and muscles

• Improve your mood

• Improve your balance and coordination

The faster, farther and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits! As we usher in the first rites of Spring 2020, we can begin to take advantage of some of the beautiful areas surrounding our Woodbridge based communities at Fox Hill Run,  Forest View, Evergreen East, Evergreen Forest and Cloverleaf Gardens.

A simple stroll thru Woodbridge’s own Parker Press Park  would be a great place for beginners looking for a low impact outdoor experience. Bordered on the south by Poillon Ave, Rahway Ave on the east and Woodbridge Station to the west, Parker Press Park features great concerts and cultural events when the summer season rolls around.

A step-up from Parker Press Park for low-impact distance walking would be William Warren Park conveniently located on Florida Grove Road, between the borders of Woodbridge and Perth Amboy. This 126 acre beautiful park is extremely popular for its first class athletic fields, its picnic groves and summer music series, as well as being the home to the “Kids-in-the-Park” summer theater program.

Finally, the Ash Brook Reservation Hiking Trail in nearby Scotch Plains provides hikers with some beautiful trails with signs explaining the indigenous surroundings. At one point this park was slated to become an international airport and thankfully, nature and good eco-wisdom won out! History buffs take heed that this is one of the few places in Union County untouched since Colonial times which played an important role in the 1777 Battle of the Short Hills. The American forces sought to lure the British troops through the Ash Swamp to buy more time for General Washington to get his soldiers back up to safety in the Watchung Mountains.
