He shoots, he scores! Since opening night on March 20th, 2010, when the New York Red Bulls defeated Brazil’s Santo FC in a 3-1 victory, Red Bull Arena has been the soccer capital of New Jersey. Since then, Red Bull Arena has hosted concerts, a Major League Soccer All-Star Game, the United States Men’s soccer team, the semifinals and championship match of the 2011 Big East Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament and more. And it’s not even three years old.

Answering a deeply felt desire amongst many for an answer to the soccer craze seen around the rest of the world, Major League Soccer (MLS) was founded in 1993. After its first season in 1996, the league grew and shrank at a generally even pace until the United States’ impressive showings at the World Cup in 2002—after which soccer excitement in the US expanded dramatically.

The Red Bulls were born in 1996 as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, one of the founding MLS teams. Today, the Red Bulls participate in international tournaments each year, representing the Garden State on the global soccer stage.
