Proprietary House is one of the many historical buildings located in Middlesex County, NJ. Constructed in 1764 as the “Proprietary House in Amboy,” the structure originally served as a mansion housing the Royal Governors in the years leading up to the American Revolution.
Fast forward over 250 years to today, when the Proprietary House has been restored to its original splendor and serves as a museum that’s visited regularly by history buffs and other curious residents and visitors.
Each Wednesday afternoon in December, Proprietary House will be open for “afternoon tea,” an opportunity to munch on delicious treats, sip assorted teas and tour the building. On December 18th from 1-4pm, the museum will be open for Christmas Open House. Visitors can look forward to refreshments and the opportunity to explore museum rooms adorned with holiday decorations.
