2016 is already off to a pretty historic start, with one of the biggest snowfalls in New Jersey’s history hitting the region this past weekend. In Piscataway Township, 2016 was set to be special from the outset: this year marks the township’s 350th anniversary, and Piscataway residents are marking the occasion in all sorts of creative and educational ways.
To get the year started with a look to both the past and future, a township resident and the Piscataway Historical and Heritage Society Committee created a beautiful 350th Anniversary Commemorative Calendar, available now for a suggested donation of $3 at locations throughout town.
On Sunday, January 31st at 2pm, the Historical and Heritage Society is co-hosting a talk by Quick Chek CEO Dean Durling at the J.F. Kennedy Library, located at Hoes Lane and Buena Vista Avenue. This free talk kicks off a series of presentations by businesses that have locations in the township.
For the township’s annual Founders Day, head to the Municipal Chambers, at 455 Hoes Lane, to hear a talk by Rutgers Prof. Elizabeth Reeves Lindt about Camp Kilmer, an army base that was active in the area until the mid-20th century.
As the year goes on, the events will keep coming — keep up with what’s happening by visiting the Piscataway Township website over the course of 2016.
