In the past few years, Perth Amboy has seen downtown beautification, train station renovation, and more. And now, thanks to an award of $7.1 million in state grants, the town will be getting a new open space as well.

Soon, a six-acre brownfield site along the Raritan River off 2nd Street will become a green space offering public access to the river. Complete with a living shoreline, ecological habitats and green infrastructure, the area that was once a metal recycling facility will become a beautiful park fit for recreation and outdoor relaxation. Located between the Perth Amboy train station, public schools and the Raritan Bay, the park will be ideally situated for public enjoyment.

This latest effort is the result of a years-long partnership between Perth Amboy and the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, which included a community outreach process led by community planning specialists at Rutgers. Over 500 residents, students and members of the surrounding neighborhood gave their input as part of that process.
