Transportation should be about more than getting from one place to the next. That’s why NJ Transit has brought more than 150 art installations to stations throughout its system — bringing culture and whimsy to the commuting experience.
Since 1994, art installations have peppered the NJ Transit system as part of the Transit Arts Program. At the Metropark Station, located in the Iselin section of Woodbridge, NJ, take a look at Mary Angers work: eight windscreens visible from the platform, showing local architecture. At the Edison Station, look out for stained glass windows depicting the community and the rail system. Other station offer sculptures, mosaics, and more. The Transit Arts Program brings the work of local and national artists, both well-established and relatively unknown, to provide an interesting and enriching artistic experience for all riders. Artists interested in contributing to this initiative should register with the New Jersey Visual Arts Registry.
