A theme park in a mall? At American Dream, it’s more than just a fantasy. A cartoon-based theme park — and the largest indoor theme park in North America — Nickelodeon Universe opened in October and features elements from Nickelodeon shows including Dora the Explorer, Rugrats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Spongebob Squarepants and more. Visitors to the 8.5 acre amusement park find 35 rides, a nine-story ropes course, and the Nickelodeon blimp, making for a family-friendly destination to remember.
If that’s not enough, the Americna Dream complex also features Big SNOW, the first and only indoor ski slope in North America, as well as “The Rink,” an NHL regulation-sized ice rink, both of which opened alongside Nickelodeon Universe this past fall.
The mega-mall has been slow to fill up: as of now, only one store has been finished and the restaurants aren’t yet open, and the DreamWorks Water Park has yet to be completed. But, while progress has been slow in some ways, in others, American Dream has already made history.
