If you turn on cable news, it might look like all the big decisions get made in Washington. But across the Garden State, municipalities are taking this week to show residents where and how their local governments do the work of making their communities function.
Founded by the New Jersey League of Municipalities, local government week is held from April 7th through 13th, and is an opportunity for residents to peer into the work of their governments: from operating parks to managing budgets to running the schools.
Over in Bloomfield, the town is celebrating with a display in its municipal building showcasing the community’s fire and police departments, public parks and municipal building throughout the years. The exhibit is designed to showcase how the town has transformed and is open during usual business hours. In addition, Bloomfield is hosting a Government Beautification Planting Day at the courtyard of the public library from 8-11am on Saturday, April 13th. All are welcome to come get their hands dirty.
The Bloomfield Municipal Building is located at 1 Municipal Plaza, while the public library is located at 90 Broad Street.
