Something wrong in your New Jersey apartment?
Let your landlord, property manager, or maintenance staff know. We know you don’t want to bother them, and you can take probably take care of that new lightbulb yourself. But if you have a leaky faucet, chipped linoleum, or spot mold near a vent—any low-level maintenance issue—make sure to file a report.
Even if it takes a technician five minutes to fix, the problem is recorded. And that becomes important when you move out. Then minor problems that would normally be included in the rent are more likely to come out of your security deposit.
Think about it—when you move out the landlord has to restore the apartment to move-in condition. Where’s that money going to come from?
Don’t be shy about maintenance complaints. Your wallet will thank you later.
