Those who love the great outdoors will be excited to learn about new plans for an ecological park in Piscataway Township. Planned as an open space perfect for a stroll, a picnic or a game of frisbee, the 75-acre park will be located on the former Cornell Dairy Farm site at Metlars Lane and Washington Avenue, where old structures have been knocked down so that the land and soil can be remediated.

Although the park is still in the initial planning stages, officials have already begun the planning process, inviting feedback from residents. Most of the plans include an emphasis on native species and gearing the park toward toward passive recreation — whether than ends up meaning a large pond perfect for kayaking or paddle-boating, a separate dog park where four-legged friends can run off-leash, walking and fitness trails, or some combination of all of the above and more.

Construction on the park will begin next year. In the meantime, residents have been encouraged to dream big and offer feedback about what they hope to see.
