When the Morris Canal Park opened in Bloomfield this past May, it was a cause for celebration in the township. The first new park the town has seen in decades, this beautiful 1000-foot linear park sits along what survives of the historic Morris Canal.
Unused since the canal was decommissioned in 1924, the Morris Canal Park forms part of a network of trails and parks that weave through the township. Today, the existing 5-mile greenway connects green spaces, parks, and trails throughout the township, including Wrights Field, Memorial Park, Foley Field, Collins House, Brookside Park, Pulaksi Park and Clark’s Pond South.
Visitors — including runners, walkers, bikers and other nature lovers — can explore the historic route where canal boats transported goods in the 19th century, connecting with the region’s nature and its history at the same time.
