Monday marks the annual celebration of one of our nation’s newest federal holidays, Martin Luther King Day. First observed in 1986, the day honors the contributions of the civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and is an opportunity to reflect on the gains that have been made in the struggle for civil rights and consider the work that can still be done to continue to bend the arc of history toward justice.

This weekend, the NJ State Museum will be holding an event hosted by Secretary of State Tahesha Way and the New Jersey Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Commission called “Telling Our Story,” which honors the contributions of women leaders in the movement for equal justice and civil rights. Held on Sunday, January 19th from 3-5pm, the event will also be an opportunity to look at the role that the census plays in that continued movement. Register for the event here.
