According to the National Institue of Mental Health, mental illness affects 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers and 13% of children every year. Sadly only half of those affected receive treatment primarily because of the stigma attached to even the very mention of the words “mental health.” Mental illness however is really a physical illness that affects the brain causing disturbances that make it difficult to cope with ordinary life.

Progress however is being made thru research in uncovering the complicated causes for mental illness and Perth Amboys Mental Health Awareness Walk on Saturday on 9/27 at 9am is clearly a step in the right direction.
