In every great organization, innovation happens somewhere. For AT&T, that somewhere is AT&T Labs, the research and development division of the company, which advances networking, communication and information technology. It also happens to take place, in part, in New Jersey.
Two of the locations for AT&T Labs are located in the Garden State: in Bedminster, NJ and Middletown, NJ. Researchers at these sites conduct cutting-edge research, tackling challenging real world problems, with real implications for everyday users of technology. They collaborate with universities, map networks, solve data challenges and develop scalable solutions.
Of course, innovation is nothing new for New Jersey. In the late 19th century, the state was famously home to none other than Thomas Edison, whose early contributions to telecommunications technology — including inventing the phonograph and bringing electricity into homes — serve as the foundation for so much of the technology we use today.
