For women living in Elizabeth, NJ, Josephine’s Place provides a place to connect to resources, skills and one another. Founded in 2003 and sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, this storefront women’s center draws in 350 to 400 patrons each year.

This past year, Josephine’s Place held a Dinner Dance Fundraiser, poetry and percussion workshops, doula trainings, and more. This coming month, the center will host English conversation classes, an American Heart Association CPR course, women’s storytelling hour, scrapbooking, knitting and crocheting—amongst other activities. For more information on upcoming events, visit the Josephine’s Place online calendar.

Josephine’s Place is named after Mother Josephine Marie O’Brien, who served as general superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station for six years, starting in 1965. Dedicated to providing a space to “facilitate the empowerment of women,” Josephine’s Place works to build trust, foster mutual respect and meet needs that the women it serves express.
