Curious about the artistic skills floating around your town? From April 1st through 4th, enjoy a peek into the creative talents in Somerset County at the Hillsborough Cultural Arts Commission’s 2011 Art Exhibit and Competition.
The competition will kick off with an opening reception on Friday evening at 7pm, during which a portrait of the late Hillsborough philanthropist Doris Duke will be unveiled. The portrait, painted by local resident Kathleen Fritz, will then be entered into Hillsborough’s public art collection.
After the opening ceremony, wander through the collection to catch all the art that awaits: from Friday through Monday, the exhibit will show the work of high school students from across Somerset county, along with art by adults from Hillsborough. The competition will be held across four categories: adult art, high school art, adult photography and high school photography, with first, second and third place prizes in each area.
With $2,400 in prize money, this competition is sure to bring out some of the hidden photography, painting, drawing and sculpting skills in Somerset. The exhibit will be held at the Hillsborough Municipal Complex at 379 South Branch Road and will be open Friday from 7-9pm, Saturday and Sunday from 9am-7pm or Monday from 9am-5pm.
