Did you know that the first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place not in Ireland but in America? Records show that a St. Patrick’s Day parade was held on March 17, 1601 in a Spanish colony in what is now St. Augustine, Florida!

While St. Patricks Day originally had its beginning as a religious service honoring St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints, once Irish immigrants brought their traditions to the United States, the holiday evolved into a secular celebration of Irish culture. Since around the ninth century, people in Ireland have been observing the Roman Catholic feast day of St. Patrick on March 17.

Edison residents at  Edison WoodsEdison Woods Senior 55+Edison VillageBlueberry Village, & Rivendell Heights can thank the good folks at Haileys Harp & Pub for keeping this rich Irish tradition alive by sponsoring it’s annual Irish Heritage Week from March 13 – March 17.
