Growing up in the 1960’s meant that the only real consistent source of music was the radio. When I first heard the Drifters sing “Under the Boardwalk” on my parents GE Bakelite radio, I was smitten by the harmony voicing that punctuates the chorus’ lilting falsetto “…down by the SEA…” passage. So smitten in fact that I’d recruit my really talented cousin (who became a Broadway star) to sing the bass line as I wailed my fair to middling falsetto voice over and over again, just wanting to repeat that soulful passage. After my cousin would tire we’d head to my sisters room to listen to her 45’s and invariably, I’d force MY 45 of “Under the Boardwalk” into the playlist to my cousins consternation as he mumbled, “…oh no, not again!”

Well YES, again I say! Edison residents at  Edison WoodsEdison Woods Senior 55+Edison VillageBlueberry Village, & Rivendell Heights are invited to attend on Friday May 20 at 8pm in nearby South Plainfield, the classic soul & Motown show, A DECADE OF SOUL featuring special guest, Prentiss McNeil of the Drifters. By clicking here you can get your tickets and bring back those vintage soul sounds that keep hearts beating, feet dancing and lovers loving.

I was fortunate in 2015 to see this revue live at the (now shuttered) BB Kings Blues Club on 42nd Street in Manhattan and if that show is any indicator of the show coming May 20th to South Plainfield High School, you’re in for a great night of live music performed by great musicians.
