Flowers are blooming, leaves are growing: spring is in the air, and what better time to commemorate planet Earth? This year, celebrate Earth Day on April 16th at Liberty State Park, with the Hudson County Improvement Authority’s Earth Day 2011 5K Run/Walk and Fair!
The fun-filled day of environmental education and activities starts at 10am with the 5K run and walk. Registration for the 5K will take place from 7:30-9:30am. From there, participants can look forward to an “Eco-Olympics” event, consisting of a series of friendly races and relays, and the “Kids’ Kingdom” area, filled with educational displays and interactive environmental projects. Plus, look forward to contests, giveaways, craft activities, and other exciting entertainment! And with the stunning backdrop of Hudson River and views of New York City, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island across the way, Liberty State Park is the perfect place to remember how great it is to be outdoors and in New Jersey.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “A Billion Acts of Green,” emphasizing the importance of the small environmental steps we can all take to make a positive impact on our surroundings.
