SASHIKO is a form of Japanese stitch work that is similar to hand quilting. It was originally developed to help mend and reinforce clothing and is now commonly used in the visible mending movement. But, it can also be purely decorative too!  SASHIKO designs typically derive from nature, with some, considered to hold symbolism, seen particularly on garments. Many of the patterns are geometric in nature, and with the availability of many pre-printed fabrics nowadays, it is very easy to make your very own first SASHIKO piece.

Old Bridge Residents at Woodhaven CommonsWoodhaven Meadows and Woodhaven Terrace can find out just how easy SASHIKO pieces are to make when the Old Bridge Public Library offers it’s 2 part series beginning 9/20 and then again on 9/27 entitled SASHIKO STITCHING FOR ADULTS from 7pm-8:30pm for each session. (PLEASE NOTE; Registration will open 2 weeks before the first class date, on 9/6 at 10:00 am.)
