If you’ve noticed a surge of art and creativity in Perth Amboy, you’re not alone. Over the past couple years, this township has seen an uptick in arts and culture, part of the Perth Amboy Creative Arts Plan.
The plan was originally developed by the City and the Jewish Renaissance Foundation, along with National Consortium for Creative Placemaking and local stakeholders and artists, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Dodge Foundation — and it’s been designed to empower the Perth Amboy community through creative placemaking and the arts.
Winner of the “2015 Planning Award for “Outstanding Municipal Plan for 2016 – Municipal,” from the American Planning Association’s New Jersey Chapter, this plan has already brought Perth Amboy the Waterfront Arts Festival, the town’s Arts Council, the Public Mural Ordinance and more. Look forward to more creative interventions in the coming years as more artistic initiatives are put into effect.
