September 15th through October 15th marks National Hispanic American Heritage Month, and in Carteret, residents will celebrate at Carteret Latino Fest 2012.

On Saturday, September 29th, Mayor Dan Reiman and the Carteret Borough Council present a day of food, entertainment and cultural celebration. Held at the Carteret Waterfront from 4pm until 10pm, the day will feature folkloric dance performances, live music by Combo Latino and Los g Del Sabor, cool beats by DJ Starlight and DJ/MC Gloria B from AMOR 93.1, plus master Zumba classes and salsa lessons, a beer garden, rides for kids, novelty vendors and more.

National Hispanic Heritage Month dates back to 1968, when it began as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. In 1988, the week was expanded into a month under President Ronald Reagan. A time for celebration and study of Hispanic culture and history, this annual observance includes events around New Jersey and the country.
