Built in the 1830’s to transport goods and materials between New York and Pennsylvania, the D & R Canal now provides recreational activities and water supply for the surrounding communities. Belle Mead / Montgomery Residents at Meadows at Montgomery, Pike Run Village and Pike Run Meadows are encouraged to enjoy the pleasures of canoeing and kayaking on this once bustling waterway.
Start by heading to the Griggstown Canoe and Kayak Rental and by clicking here you’ll be taken to their website for in-depth information. Adjacent to the rental area you’ll find some picnic tables to enjoy your picnic or snacks. There’s even a biking and hiking trail there as well.
Once you’re out of the water, you may still be in the mood for a bit of trail exploring and by clicking here you’ll be taken to the ALL TRAILS page for a 5.1 mile (around 2 hours) MODERATE rated loop trail located on the 685 acre Griggstown Grasslands Preserve just across the street.
