The end of the year is a great time to reflect on the year that just passed — our triumphs and successes; where we exceeded expectations; and how we might continue to grow in the year ahead. In Perth Amboy, this past year brought culture, art and and reinvestment to the town’s downtown district — enhancing the experience of commuters, shoppers, and residents looking to enjoy the community.
This year, the township invested over $750k in capital and grant funds toward improving roads, power washing streets, enhancing curbs for ADA-compliance, making landscape improvements, beautifying the train station, repainting city streets, and more.
Perhaps one of the most unique additions to the town came in the form of the El Dorado Mobile Mural project. A public art project, the Mobile Mural Project is a large-scale conceptual artwork that was erected on panel boards at a vacant corner property on Smith Street. It includes an 8-by-40-foot mural painted by students and volunteers over Memorial Day weekend. This project brought beautiful artwork to the town thanks to a collaboration that included the Perth Amboy Board of Education, the Office of Recreation and the Arts and the City Council.
