Middlesex County’s got talent. This past spring, the Middlesex County Department of Senior Services hosted a Senior Art Contest for artistically-inclined county residents aged 60 and up. Until June 12th, local artists registered for the competition and the chance to go on to compete in the New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Show, coming this fall. Now, the results are in, and the exhibit is up: visit the Studio Art Gallery at Middlesex County College in Edison until August 12th to see the range of contributions to the contest, including the winning pieces. With categories from acrylic and pastel to photography and mixed media, the contest yielded a variety of works–including some requiring highly technical and technological skills. A great opportunity to see the diversity of abilities here in Middlesex, the exhibit showcases both professional and non-professional entrants. Entry is free; hours are from 11am-4pm, Monday-Thursday.
And that’s not all for multi-generational arts in Middlesex County: Perth Amboy recently re-launched its Gallery Center for the Arts with a Grand Reopening Celebration on June 16th, featuring an “Arts for Everyone” group show–complete with an array of artwork from residents of all ages. The Perth Amboy Gallery Center for the Arts is now located at 339 Reade St. in Perth Amboy.
