    Essex County is a 130 square mile area located in northeastern New Jersey. With easy access to New York City and a population of almost 800,000 residents, it is the third most populous county in the state. There are currently 21 municipalities in Essex County. The county continues to experience economic growth but is shifting from a manufacturing base to a service-oriented economy and is currently home to corporate companies like PSE&G, Bell Atlantic, and Prudential.
