    Living in Elizabeth, NJ

The fourth largest city in New Jersey, Elizabeth is an 11.7 square mile town of approximately 126,000 residents. The township is home to dozens of public schools, and operates its high schools as magnet schools: in addition to the main Elizabeth High School building, Elizabeth has a College Preparatory Academy, Arts Academy, Technology Academy, Leadership Academy and Career and Technical Academy—all of which are part of the public school system.

Named America’s 45th Greenest City by Popular Science Magazine, this environmentally conscious community also has a rich history. The first capital of New Jersey, Elizabeth has 8 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own history and character—from Elizabethport, the city’s oldest neighborhood, to Peterstown, home to Elizabeth’s historic Union Square. Today, Elizabeth has many shopping options, including Jersey Gardens Mall, New Jersey’s largest outlet mall, which offers a variety of discount shopping opportunities. It also hosts the Jersey Gardens Movie Theater, one of the largest theaters in the Northeast. For healthcare, Elizabeth has Trinitas Regional Medical Center, a 15-building medical center with branches spread around Elizabeth and the surrounding medical center.

Just minutes from Newark Airport, Elizabeth has two train stations, Elizabeth Station and North Elizabeth Station—both serviced by NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line and North Jersey Coast line. Conveniently located off of both the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, Elizabeth is also accessible via Interstate 78 and Routes 1, 22, 27, 28 and 82.
