Another summer is just around the corner, and that means that another season of Plays-in-the-Park awaits. Each year, this Middlesex County initiative brings high-quality theater to Edison Township’s Roosevelt Park–and this year is no exception.

The season kicks off on June 22nd, with “Annie,” produced and directed by Gary P. Cohen. Based on Howard Gray’s “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip, this classic Broadway musical gives a peek into depression-era life in America while following the ever-sunny Annie on her rags-to-riches journey. Featuring such favorite tunes as “Hard Knock Life,” and “Tomorrow,” Annie is sure to charm and delight. The show runs through July 2nd.

From July 13th through the 23rd, catch “Hairspray,” offering an entertaining slice of the 1960s in America. Based on the John Waters film of the same name, this Marc Shaiman musical features celebrity-obsessed teenagers vying for spots on a television dance show. Directed by John Menter, Hairspray is quite the ride–and might just make you get-up-and-dance along with Tracy Turnblad!

Finally, from August 3rd through the 13th, the stage will be set for “Godspell,” directed by Art Neill. Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, this surprising and exhilarating Stephen Schwartz and John Michael Tebelak musical will be running on the Roosevelt Park stage for the first time ever. Prepare yourself for such recognizable songs as “Day by Day” while you watch biblical lessons come to life before your eyes.

Plays-in-the-Park offers the opportunity to catch affordable family-friendly entertainment just minutes from home, all while enjoying the great outdoors. And with space for 2000 patrons, the shows rarely turn anyone away. So bring some snacks, a lawn chair, and your friends, family and neighbors–and take in a show or three this summer!
