One of my most memorable, unexpected summer pleasures originally came about in the early 1980’s when the entire family gathered together at the Admiral Hotel in Wildwood NJ for a family reunion weekend. On the sprawling patio, we were playing a trivia game similar to “name that tune” when the question was asked; “What Neil Diamond song title includes the name of the daughter of the 35th President of the United States?”
Not even batting an eye, my father (no interest in pop or rock music and a terrible singing voice) starts singing “Sweet Caroline” which started all of us singing as well as a number of people who happened to be within earshot!
